p>In previous articles I have looked at the impact the ‘Living Wage’ is going to have on the UK Economy and it seems that it is at the forefront of the news again. It was the piece; “UK retail sector predicted to cut 900,000 jobs” that caught my eye advising that the retail sector will be ‘more productive and higher earning’ by 2025.
That may well be the case but personally I can’t see how the loss of 900,000 jobs can have a positive impact on any economy. That will be 900,000 additional people out of work (even if this is just temporarily) not paying tax and not contributing towards the public sector services that we all require.
That said the article does highlight a key point, which is that certain sectors are particularly vulnerable to this wage increase. It really does reinforce that every penny counts and that there has never been a more integral time to be ensuring that operationally organisations are at their most efficient. It is now essential with these changes being enforced that employers get real value for money out of their staff.

- Know who’s on holiday or other planned
- absence in time to adapt the rota and control the cost
