Working for a Software company of course I am happy to embrace change, it’s amazing to think just how far technology has developed over time. There are new solutions emerging every day that are making life easier for people, reducing unnecessary amount that we spend or enabling us to increase productivity as a result of their implementation.
I came across the article: “Why the future office will be as much about fun as work.” (BBC, Jane Wakefield, 2016) The article looks into the way that employers are continuing to embrace change and are happy with the positive response they are receiving.
“Technological advances mean that staff can avoid the drudgery of commuting and work from home, coffee shops, or any number of exotic locations. So some companies are working extra-hard to make their offices more attractive places to be.
There is a host of innovative examples of where some of the most recogniseable brands are adopting some particularly unconventional styles of working in an attempt to ensure morale and productivity remain at their optimum an it appears to be having the desired effect.
For example the article highlights how Lego have achieved this advising: “Space is divided into flexible work zones with no fixed seating and no offices for managers. Employees who leave their workspace for more than one-and-a-half hours need to take all their stuff with them.
Lego even has a department for “new ways of working” and, says senior director Sophie Patrikios, the experiment has gone well.
“In our May 2016 survey, 88% of staff said they liked the choice of where to work. They get a choice of different settings to suit their activity or mood, including a quiet library, a buzzing social area with background music, comfy chairs in cosy corners or big banks of desks to share with team-mates.”
So how does this apply to us here at Thinking Software?
For those of you not familiar with us here at Thinking Software, we have developed and support our Enterprise Time & Attendance solution, Rota Horizon.
It provides you with the perfect Workforce Management tool to accurately record and monitor employee attendance. Our solution seamlessly integrates with the majority of Access Control Manufacturers hardware, more information on those we currently integrate with can be found here.
The solution allows you to: Electronically plan your staff rotas more efficiently, produce over 150 Time & Attendance reports, Monitor lateness, absence & break times, Calculate employee work and overtime hours as well as exporting accumulated hours to any payroll system or excel spreadsheet to match these up against the relevant pay rates.
With reference to the article specifically, Rota Horizon really is the perfect ally to have when implementing more flexible ways of working. Whilst providing employees with the ability to complete their contractual requirements in a more flexible fashion is a great employee benefit, it is still integral from a business perspective to understand when work is being completed.
Rota Horizon has a Flextime module that allows employees to clock in and out for work, dictating when they complete these hours within reason. This, coupled with the Self Service Module presents the ideal tool to provide employees with freedom whilst ensuring their job gets done.
Self Service provides employees with an online platform from which they can make requests and clock themselves in and out for work, providing their GPS Tracked location of where they are when doing so. The module also enables staff to:
View their work schedule (past, present & future)
Request annual leave/absence
Check remaining holiday entitlement
View unallocated shifts and request to work them
Set their availability
View their flexi-time balance
