Back at the beginning of February I produced an article “How do you manage Remote Workers?” that was to celebrate the completion of a new feature within our Self Service Module.
One month on I am keen to remind everyone about the new feature following the positive response we have had from those who have made use of it.
Self Service has always been a very popular module among our current clients, empowering employees to manage their own work schedules where possible. This is via their own online portal that they access with a username and password, where they can do the following:
- View their work schedule (past, present & future)
- Request annual leave/absence
- Check remaining holiday entitlement
- View unallocated shifts and request to work them
- Set their availability
- View their flexi-time balance
Self Service New Feature
However to assist with managing remote workers, the module now has GPS tracking capability. This is perfect for staff members who are going to visit clients off site and need to clock in for work at their exact location to say they have arrived safely and on time. This also avoids members of staff fabricating their actual location if they have failed to get to their expected location on time.
The aim of the Self Service Module is to allow employees to prompt management with the relevant data that can then be automatically updated within the system. For example, employees can use Rota Horizon to make Holiday Requests. These requests will go directly to their line manager where if accepted, this time off will be automatically populated within the Department Rota. This time will then be automatically deducted from the Employees Holiday Balance whilst also prompting the line manager to get cover during the absence period if necessary.
This is also very much the case with reference to setting availability and requesting to work unallocated shifts. On both occasions it reduces the work that management are required to do by empowering staff members to make themselves available to work additional shifts that the management team can then authorise.
