We have previously discussed the importance of an employer recognising Workplace Fatigue among its employees and looking to address this. When an employee is feeling tired and stressed, even though research has been done, personally I don’t think it was required to work out that you wont be able to deliver your optimum performance is that condition.
I came across the article: “How lack of sleep and stress affects your employees’ performance.” (Owen Gough, 2017, http://smallbusiness.co.uk) As you can all predict lack of sleep and stress were having a negative impact on the employees in question. The article appeared to be trying raise awareness to employers and employees alike, in an attempt to reduce the amount effected and ensure Workplaces are recognising this as a serious issue. It goes on to state:
‘If you’re suffering particularly badly, it could be worth talking to your employer to see if there’s anything that can be done to make the working day that little bit easier for you. For example, being able to work from home if you’re not feeling 100 per cent, or taking an earlier lunch break if you’re in desperate need of some fresh air, are just small steps that can make a big difference.’
In the 21st century we have come a long way with more and more people deviating from the traditional 9-5 working hours. The demands in peoples circumstances mean that this is no longer realistic and organisations have taken great strides to adapting to these. However the article obviously highlights that the employers that want the most from their staff will do all they can to ensure that these issues don’t hinder their staff.
So how does this apply to us here at Thinking Software?
For those of you not familiar with us here at Thinking Software, we have developed and support our Enterprise Time & Attendance solution, Rota Horizon.
It provides you with the perfect Workforce Management tool to accurately record and monitor employee attendance. Our solution also seamlessly integrates with the majority of Access Control Manufacturers hardware, more information on those we currently integrate with can be found Here.
The solution allows you to: Electronically plan your staff rotas more efficiently, produce over 150 Time & Attendance reports, Monitor lateness, absence & break times, Calculate employee work and overtime hours as well as exporting accumulated hours to any payroll system or excel spreadsheet to match these up against the relevant pay rates.
With reference to the article being discussed specifically, Rota Horizon has the potential to be the perfect tool to help in this scenario. When it comes to Staff Planning and understanding how long employees have been working, this is exactly what the solution is designed to do. On that basis it can help you understand if employees are exceeding their contractual obligation significantly which may lead to stress.
The system also has the ability (using the self service module) for staff to make it clear when they are working at all times as long as they have access to a web browser. On that basis when staff are working remotely, which can obviously be a great perk to many, it can be monitored to ensure that they are not over doing it resulting in Burnout.
With reference to the hours that employees are working, Rota Horizon is going to tell you need to know. It is this information that can be used effectively to change company culture for the better of all employees. If there is a positive trend in terms of productivity as a result of working more flexibly, reducing hours or providing more breaks, Rota Horizon will help you to identify that.
