It’s the fine balance that Managers have to strike in order to ensure they are getting the best out of their staff whilst ensuring employees remain positive and enthusiastic about what they do. Achieving optimum productivity is the goal for all the seniors in any organisation and as a result it is down to them to create an environment where employees want to flourish.
I came across the article: “Here’s how to make your team more productive.” (Shereen Ali, 2017) It focuses on 3 factors in; People, Technology and Time, stating that if these are addressed correctly you are heading for success.
From a very logical perspective it makes sense. Prioritise the people to motivate and make them happy. Utilise technology to aid this process helping the staff work more effectively and measure the results of any changes to company culture. Then finally with reference to time, ensuring that the job is manageable in the time provided and aim to be flexible to work around the lifestyles of the employees where possible.
In-fact the article highlights the following points as suggestions to improve productivity and morale at the same time:
- “Notice good work.
- Never be too busy or bootstrapped to invest time and/or money in coaching, mentoring and training.
- Cross-train. If people understand how others in the company work, they make their own processes fit better with those of other teams, boosting efficiency.
- Make sure everyone understands the business’ goals and their own part in them.
- Try to make work enjoyable, and the workplace sociable and supportive.
- Give workers the flexibility to work their way. For most people, this means choosing working hours and places that fit in with needs like childcare.”
So how does this apply to us here at Thinking Software?
For those of you not familiar with us here at Thinking Software, we have developed and support our Enterprise Time & Attendance solution, Rota Horizon.
It provides you with the perfect Workforce Management tool to accurately record and monitor employee attendance. Our solution also seamlessly integrates with the majority of Access Control Manufacturers hardware, more information on those we currently integrate with can be found Here.
The solution allows you to: Electronically plan your staff rotas more efficiently, produce over 150 Time & Attendance reports, Monitor lateness, absence & break times, Calculate employee work and overtime hours as well as exporting accumulated hours to any payroll system or excel spreadsheet to match these up against the relevant pay rates.
With reference to the article being discussed specifically, Rota Horizon could well be the perfect tool to help ensure you address the points made in the article effectively. The message from the article is that you ensure morale is at a maximum, it’s the most effective way to get Productivity to run parallel with it.
As a result, Rota Horizon, while it can be used to ensure that employees are doing their Contracted Hours, it can also be used to ensure that staff aren’t overdoing it. Perhaps new company legislation works in line with teh Working Time Directive and states employees shouldn’t exceed 48 in a week to maintain a good Work/Life Balance, Rota Horizon will provide the information to highlight those not sticking to it.
You may also offer staff the ability to work more Flexibly, completing some or all of their hours at a time of their choosing. Rota Horizon will record when those were completed which again can provide internal research to shape company culture for the better. The system also allows you to advise when you’re working remotely so management have a complete understanding of when staff are working.
