What does your organisation do to try and maximise productivity?

It’s the fine balance that Managers have to strike in order to ensure they are getting the best out of their staff whilst ensuring employees remain positive and enthusiastic about what they do. Achieving optimum productivity is the goal for all the seniors in any organisation and as a result it is down to them to create an environment where employees want to flourish.

I came across the article: “Here’s how to make your team more productive.” (Shereen Ali, 2017) It focuses on 3 factors in; People, Technology and Time, stating that if these are addressed correctly you are heading for success.

From a very logical perspective it makes sense. Prioritise the people to motivate and make them happy. Utilise technology to aid this process helping the staff work more effectively and measure the results of any changes to company culture. Then finally with reference to time, ensuring that the job is manageable in the time provided and aim to be flexible to work around the lifestyles of the employees where possible.

In-fact the article highlights the following points as suggestions to improve productivity and morale at the same time:

  • “Notice good work.
  • Never be too busy or bootstrapped to invest time and/or money in coaching, mentoring and training.
  • Cross-train. If people understand how others in the company work, they make their own processes fit better with those of other teams, boosting efficiency.
  • Make sure everyone understands the business’ goals and their own part in them.
  • Try to make work enjoyable, and the workplace sociable and supportive.
  • Give workers the flexibility to work their way. For most people, this means choosing working hours and places that fit in with needs like childcare.”
